Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island known as West Island. It is the West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a large area that extends from Lachine all the way west. It is often cited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was not long. Brugel became a woman of a certain age living in Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. Her early ambition was to be a dancer however a rapid growth rate meant that she literally outgrew her dance partners. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I outgrew my male friends, I quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who shifted to acting. Her high school teacher school was what pushed her in the right direction. It was her teacher who suggested she audition to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the principal role in Anne of Green Gables after she had a go at. When she was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. For the last twenty years, her work has been featured on both the small and big screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her part as Rita in the acclaimed television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actress in Season 1 which was viewed only occasionally.
